Welcome to the LRD Family

Welcome to Lansing Roller Derby! We are very excited that you’ve made the first step towards an incredible new, life changing experience. LRD has an open enrollment policy, meaning that anyone is able to join during anytime of the year. Throughout the year, we host our Bi-Annual Basic Skills Boot Camps. During this 8 week time frame, our vetted training staff is 100% dedicated to working with you one-on-one to develop the minimum skills necessary to skate safely, pass the minimum skills safety assessment and to play the sport of roller derby. Your safety will always be our number one priority.

(You can learn more about the WFTDA Minimum Skills Assessment Here)

In between the Boot Camps, we continue to actively recruit via our "Learn to Skate" training sessions. Learn to Skate sessions are designed for anyone interested in learning how to skate, whether or not they include an interest in roller derby. No experience is necessary for any of our basic skills training. If you give us your dedication and hard work effort, LRD promises to give you all the tools and support necessary to help make you the best roller derby player you can be. We do this regardless of size, shape, or skill level, everyone is invited and welcomed!

Our organization strives to promote an unbiased, positive, motivational, structured training and instruction program, filled with competitive spirit, provided in a safe environment all while creating the culture of tight knit family group. A familiar, unique, personalized, genuine, family-like experience, that gets the job done professionally and well.

join as a non-skating official
(off-skates official)

The true unsung hero of roller derby, Non-Skating Officials (NSOs) are a crew of off-skates individuals that play a vital role in the game itself. Roughly twelve NSOs are required per one bout. Their positions range from, controlling the game clock, administering the amount of time penalties are served, recording and displaying said penalties, tracking and displaying score as well as recording which players are on the track and when. This is a perfect role within the league for those individuals who are unable to participate because of physical requirements of the sport, are unable to fully commit to the time required to participate as an athlete, or if you just have a love for sports statistics. For more information on how to become a Non-Skating Official, contact our Head NSO.
