East Lansing Roller Derby opened their 2019 season with a bout that pitted the Mitten Mavens against the Border City Brawlers from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The house was packed for the match, which opened with the national anthem sung by Zach Britten. On the track, both teams featured tight pack dynamics and fleet-footed jammers.
The final score was 217 to 130, in favor of the Mavens.
The Mavens MVPs were
Muther Tucker #45, blocker,
and Casey De’Facem #11, jammer.
Following the main event, several ELRD skaters and competitors from a variety of other leagues joined forces on the track for a well-attended mixed scrimmage.
We give our thanks to everyone who donated money or feminine hygiene supplies to March’s charity partner, Helping Women Period.
